A Pictorial Tour of Bygone Lincoln

Victorian and Edwardian photographers recorded everything from Royal Visits to every day events in the City. Using photographs from the ‘John Wilson Collection’, Chris Hewis shows how much the City has changed in 100 years. Chris is Chair of Saxilby and District History Group and the Treasurer of the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology. He has written several books and articles on local history and was a regular member of BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s ‘Lunch Bunch’.

Exploring Lincolnshire’s ‘Gilbert Country’

New speaker Professor Andrew Jackson looks and the life and works of Lincolnshire author, playwright and poet Bernard Gilbert.  In this talk you will hear about the Lincoln described by the Billinghay-born writer, Bernard Samuel Gilbert (1882-1927). Gilbert compiled his observations of city life in a series of long articles for the Lincolnshire Echo. They were published through early to mid-1914. He referred to Lincoln later, when building his ‘Old England’ series of volumes through the 1920s. Non members £5…
