SUMMARY:The King's Delight
DESCRIPTION:Music\, Words & Songs from Restoration England performed by Passamezzo\nThe Kirton in Lindsey Society and KLEO announce a welcome return for Passamezzo who\, this time\, are going to delight us with words\, music and songs from Restoration England. The programme  includes ballads about horseracing\, songs from the theatre\, tavern rounds\, dance music\, divisions and solos for the violin\, viol and cittern; and music by Wilson\, Lawes\, Locke and Purcell\, and Playford. \nThe restoration of Charles II to the throne in 1660 is generally seen as a time of rejoicing\, when all the good things Parliament had tried to ban or destroy could be enjoyed again. The period is well documented through the works of Pepys\, Evelyn and through anonymous ballads describing momentous events\, including the Great Fire of 1666 and Frost Fair in 1683. \nPassamezzo are a nationally renowned costumed early music ensemble bringing historical events to life through  engaging performances. More details here. \nThey have appeared on TV programmes such as ‘Lucy Worsley’s Tudor Christmas’; provided the music for ‘A Discovery of Witches’; and taught Danny Dyer to sing when he was discovered to have royal ancestry in the BBC programme ‘Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family’. Watch the video clip: BBC One – Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family\, Series 1\, Episode 2\, Danny learns to sing like a Tudor courtier \nThey have already performed twice before at the Town Hall to great acclaim so this is a very welcome return and not to be missed. \nThe group are very keen to reach schools and can produce an education pack to help with study. The performance will appeal to both history and music students so please pass this information on to anyone who you think will be interested. \nTickets: £12/£10 concessions and £5 for students
